Bettina Shaju is the newest Client Services Associate at VOZ Advisors. We are thrilled that she learned about us through a friend, who is a VOZ team member, and immediately made the connection between her desire to positively impact the lives of patients and the VOZ way of innovating with our clients to accomplish this shared goal.
Why did you choose to launch your career at VOZ?
I am passionate about finding ways to ensure that the patient’s perspective and voice is at the forefront in health care decision-making and believe very strongly that clear and open communication is key to all successful relationships. This drew me to VOZ’s commitment and approach to furthering patient engagement and advocacy in drug development — and I knew my MPH in public health policy and practice, combined with a firsthand understanding of the patient experience through working in infection control at Johns Hopkins, would be a great fit!
Are there words of advice that you live by?
I had a challenging time with organic chemistry in college and a friend shared that I needed to “learn to love it.” I incorporate this into my life by finding the positive in all that I do, even when it is something that I don’t typically enjoy.
Where do you draw your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming. It was empowering, easy to understand, and relatable. I also draw inspiration from many past leaders and influencers. If I could have dinner with anyone, past or present, it would be Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Maya Angelou.
Is there one “little known fact” about you that you wish to share?
Something others may not know is that I love dancing! I have over 18 years of training in Indian classical dance, specifically Bharatnatyam, and 13 years’ training in Bollywood dance!
